Patching and Reinforcement

Patching Torn Leather Shoes and Boots

Patching and reinforcement can close tears and strengthen damaged leather in shoes and boots. At our Melbourne workshop, we use internal or external leather patches to support the affected area, with the approach depending on the damage and shoe construction.

Leather Patching and Toe Re-covering

We patch torn leather and holes between soles and uppers, reinforcing damaged areas internally, externally or both. We also replace worn sandal insole toe coverings and accented ballet-flat toe coverings with colour-matched smooth leather. Send photos of your shoes or boots to our team for a quote.

Shoe & Boot Patching and Reinforcement | FAQs

We can patch tears in leather shoes and boots, including holes between the soles and uppers. A supporting leather patch closes and reinforces the damaged area. Suitability depends on the damage, access and construction, so send photos for us to assess the appropriate repair.

We use internal or external leather patches, or a combination, depending on the repair. All external patches are recoloured to match the surrounding leather, but a faint join line may remain visible. Colour matching does not mean the repair will be invisible or the leather texture identical.

The quote depends on the size and location of the tear, along with access to the damaged area. Some repairs require us to open the lining or remove the soles to reach it. Send photos of the damage and the whole shoe or boot to get started.

Patching adds supporting leather to a torn or damaged area, while restitching repairs worn or broken stitching. Worn or deteriorated linings may need replacement with matching leather or material. We assess the affected area to recommend the relevant work rather than treating every split as a patch repair.

We can replace worn leather coverings at the toes of sandal insoles and accented toe coverings on ballet flats using colour-matched smooth leather. This is different from rebuilding the toe portion of a worn sole. Send photos so we can identify which area needs attention.
