Bag Stitching & Reinforcement Repairs | FAQs

We match thread colour and thickness to replicate the original stitching as closely as possible. External tear patches are recoloured to match, though a faint join may remain. Base-corner patches use matching leather where available, or complementary leather, and remain visible. We apply these to two or all four corners for symmetry, changing the bag’s original design.

We can restitch loose or opened seams. Torn or weakened leather may also need an internal or external leather patch to close and reinforce the damage. The suitable approach depends on the condition and construction of the area, including whether we need to open the lining to reach it.

We can reinforce worn handles, straps and leather loops with a supporting layer of leather, subject to their condition. Where reinforcement is unsuitable, replacement may be needed. We assess whether the existing section can be retained; replacement handles and straps use similar leather recoloured to match, rather than guaranteed original branded components.

We can patch individual piping corners, recover longer lengths with colour-matched leather, or replace significantly damaged piping. Full replacement requires opening and reassembling the bag’s seams. For worn top-edge leather trim, we make replacement pieces matched as closely as possible in colour, thickness and finish, with colour-matched stitching.

The cost depends on the size and location of the damage, the bag’s construction and access to the repair area. Opening a lining to reach a seam can affect the work involved. Send photos of your bag or accessory and the damaged area to our team for a quote.

You can bring your bag to our heritage workshop in Royal Arcade, Melbourne, for a consultation, or post it to us from elsewhere in Australia. Send photos to our team to discuss the stitching or reinforcement needed and how to arrange your repair.
