Shoe Toe Taps & Metal Plates

Metal Toe Plates for Leather Soles

Metal toe plates help protect the front of leather soles from wear. At our Melbourne workshop, we fit flush-mounted toe taps to suitable shoes and assess worn toe areas to determine whether the leather needs repair before fitting plates.

Lulu & Triumph Toe Plate Fitting

We fit French steel Lulu toe plates and brass Triumph plates in pairs, recessed flush with leather soles and secured with screws. Our Triumph plates are custom-cut and shaped to the sole contours. Send photos of your shoes or boots to our team for a quote.

Shoe Toe Taps & Metal Plates | FAQs

We fit metal toe plates to most leather-soled shoes, subject to assessment. They protect the toe portion of the sole, so they are particularly relevant when wear is concentrated at the front. Send photos of the soles and toe edges of your shoes or boots so we can assess suitability.

We can assess worn soles as well as new shoes. Where wear is localised, we offer leather toe pieces to rebuild the front of the sole, which may avoid a full resole. We need to check the remaining leather and extent of wear before recommending repairs and toe plate fitting.

Our Lulu plates are French steel and arch-shaped. Triumph plates are brass; we custom-cut and shape them to follow the contours of your soles. Both options sit flush with the existing leather rather than forming an extra layer over the sole.

We take back a small amount of leather at the toe to create a recess, then secure the plate with screws sunk into the leather. This allows the plate to sit level with the existing sole, unlike a plate fitted over its surface. We assess the sole construction before fitting.

Send clear photos of your soles and toe edges for a quote. Our Lulu and Triumph fitting services are quoted as a pair. We assess the plate option and whether worn leather needs repair, so the quote can account for the work your shoes require.

Yes. You can post your shoes from anywhere in Australia through our online repair service, or visit our Melbourne workshop for a consultation. Send photos to our team first so we can discuss suitability and help organise your repair.
