Stretching and Alterations

Stretching and alterations

Shoe and boot stretching can ease tightness where the leather or materials allosw. At our Melbourne workshop, we stretch suitable shoes widthways and leather or suede boot calves for modest fit improvements, with alterations available when stretching alone is not enough.

Our shoe and boot fitting services

We offer shoe and boot calf stretching, targeted bunion stretching, heel softening, ankle strap adjustments and boot calf alterations. We also replace worn elastics and Velcro to restore fastening function. Suitability depends on construction and fit. Send photos of your shoes or boots to our team today for a quote.

Shoe & Boot Stretching and Alterations | FAQs

We stretch shoes widthways only, up to approximately half a size—not in length. Results depend on materials and construction. Very structured shoes, stitching across the tight area or shoes without leather lining may prevent stretching. If stretching is unsuitable, thinning the insole may be an alternative way to create more room.

We can slightly stretch leather or suede boot calves, including boots with zips, but not those with elastic panels. The boots must already fit and feel only slightly tight. For more room, we can assess adding leather panels, zips or small triangular elastic gussets. Boot calf alterations require an in-store consultation.

We can shorten or extend ankle straps and reposition buckles; multiple in-store fittings may be needed. For deteriorated straps, we custom-make a replacement pair using colour-matched leather, following the original edging and stitching. We can also add individual strap holes, although our hand-crafted holes may not look identical to machine-made originals.

We replace shoe elastics and Velcro in pairs for functional and visual symmetry. For knee-high boot elastic gusset replacement, we replace all four gussets, matching colour and style as closely as possible. Construction and access affect the work required. We can also replace Velcro with press studs at an additional charge.

We offer targeted bunion stretching to ease pressure in a specific area, with an in-store fitting required. For new shoes that rub excessively at the back, we can manually soften the heel reinforcement. These address different fit issues, so we assess the shoes and where they cause discomfort before recommending the work.

Send photos and describe where your shoes or boots feel tight to start a quote. Alteration costs depend on design, construction and access to the area being changed. Photos cannot replace required fittings: boot calf alterations and bunion stretching need an in-store visit, while ankle strap work may need multiple fittings.
