Bag Hardware and Clasp Repairs | FAQs

We assess damaged locks, clasps, clips and buckles individually and aim to repair the original hardware where possible, particularly on designer bags. If repair is not viable, we can offer a replacement. We need to inspect the item in person before confirming what is possible.

We do not stock branded hardware. We match replacements as closely as possible in size, shape and colour, but their appearance may differ. Strap fittings such as dog clips and D-rings are replaced in pairs. Other fittings may also need replacing together if an exact match cannot be sourced.

Polishing cleans and brightens hardware but cannot remove scratches or restore lost colour. Replating adds new layers of gold or silver plating and is only suitable for certain fittings that can be safely removed. We assess suitability in person. For Chanel chains, replating is limited to small areas of discolouration or chipping.

Send photos for an initial quote enquiry; we need an in-person assessment to confirm repair options. Replating requires safe removal of the hardware and inspection by a jeweller before a final price can be confirmed. Heavy fading can require multiple plating layers, making the work costly.

We repair or replace fittings including rivets, hooks, eyelets, press studs and metal feet. We can also assess worn or torn leather around attachments for reinforcement or repair. Depending on the damage, a leather loop may need replacing, and an external patch may remain visible.

You can bring your bag to our heritage workshop in Royal Arcade, Melbourne, or post it to us from anywhere in Australia. Send photos first to discuss the work. Hardware repair and replating options may still require a physical inspection before we can confirm the scope and quote.
