Boot Repairs and Restoration | FAQs

We assess the damaged areas, materials and construction to recommend suitable repairs. Options include leather half or full soles, rubber Vibram soles, heel repairs, restitching and reinforcement of torn uppers. The right approach depends on your boots’ condition; send photos so we can advise whether repair is a practical option.

Send photos of your boots and the areas needing attention for a quote. The work required, materials and construction affect the cost. You can visit our Melbourne workshop or post your boots from anywhere in Australia. Calf alterations require an in-store consultation to determine what is possible.

Our restorative clean nourishes the leather, followed by colour-matched dye on discoloured, stained or scratched areas. We custom-mix dyes to match the colour and finish, aiming for a blended result, then apply waterproofing. The improvement depends on the leather’s condition; refinishing should not be assumed to make every mark or repair invisible.

We replace broken zips, matching size, shape and colour as closely as possible. We replace both boot zips for symmetry, usually retaining original pullers; otherwise, we use generic non-branded replacements. For knee-high boot elastic replacement, we replace all four gussets, matching colour and style as closely as possible.

Yes. We replace worn backlinings, including fabric originals, with colour-matched genuine smooth leather or suede. Full lining replacement uses colour-matched smooth leather and requires taking the boot apart to remove the deteriorated lining before reassembly. We assess whether a backlining repair or full replacement is appropriate.

We can slightly stretch leather or suede calves when boots already fit but feel tight. Zipped boots may be suitable; boots with elastic panels cannot be stretched. For more room, an in-store consultation can assess leather panels, triangular gussets or added zips. We can also assess shortening knee-high boots, following existing detailing as closely as possible.
